Ice Bears Ink Experienced Forward in Malik Johnson

July 20, 2026 - The Knoxville Ice Bears have signed forward Malik Johnson for the 2026-27 season. Johnson enters his fourth season in the SPHL, having spent parts of three seasons with Pensacola. The Quebec native has also spent time in France and has enjoyed multiple stints in the ECHL. "I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Knoxville Ice Bears," said Johnson. Jimmy Soper Accepts Head Coaching Job at Baton Rouge

July 16, 2026 - Knoxville Ice Bears veteran forward and captain Jimmy Soper has accepted the head coaching job in Baton Rogue in the FPHL. The Waterloo, Ont. native joined the Ice Bears ahead of the 2024-25 season and was one of the first signings of the John Gurskis head coaching era. July 2, 2026 - The Knoxville Ice Bears have re-signed forward Tyler Williams for the 2026-27 season. The move sees Williams return for his third season in Knoxville. "Bill proved night after night that he can make an impact in every situation," said Ice Bears Head Coach John Gurskis. June 18, 2026 - The Knoxville Ice Bears have re-signed head coach John Gurskis to a two-year extension as he prepares for his third season in Knoxville. The move comes in anticipation for the franchise's 25th anniversary year. Under Gurskis, the Ice Bears have gone 52-50-12 over the past two regular seasons while winning three playoff series in that span.
