
Warriors Rout the Austin Spurs

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-7) defeated the Austin Spurs (4-6) 109-103 on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd (12th consecutive) at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The Warriors never trailed in tonight's game and would lead by as many as 15 points.
The Warriors were paced by Phil Pressey, who led all scorers with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Elgin Cook came off the bench to add 22 points and 5 rebounds, while Scott Wood contributed with 17 points. Dennis Clifford finished the game with 9 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, accounting for 36% of the Warriors' total team rebounds.
Cory Jefferson led Austin with 22 points and 8 rebounds, while Patricio Garino added 19 points. Dejounte Murray, playing on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, finished the game with a triple-double, recording 10 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists.
The first half of play saw Santa Cruz maintain a comfortable lead behind a 54.8% team shooting effort. Phil Pressey gave the Warriors a boost with a 20-point first-half scoring effort, enabling a 12-point cushion heading into the break.
The Spurs opened the third frame on a 13-7 run to chip away at their double-digit deficit, coming within 6 points of Santa Cruz at the 7:03 mark. Fueled by six-point spurt from Elgin Cook, the Warriors increased their lead to a game-high 15 points at the 3:03 mark in the quarter.
Austin would rally late in the fourth, making it a one-possession game by the 2:34 mark. With 1:35 left in regulation, Phil Pressey connected with Scott Wood for three-point shot which would extend Santa Cruz's lead back to 5 points. With the momentum swung emphatically towards the hosts, the Warriors kept the Spurs at bay, notching their first home win since November 18.
