Sigalet Names P-Bruins Man Of The Year

April 3, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are proud to announce that goaltender Jordan Sigalet has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Providence community during the 2006-07 season.

Jordan's willingness to not only participate in team-scheduled appearances but to also thrust himself into the community, volunteering his time, meeting fans and visiting children at the Hasbro Children's Hospital makes Sigalet very deserving of this award.

It is well known by this time that Sigalet, for the last two years as a professional, has been playing with Multiple Sclerosis. While playing with this disease, and doing so at a high level to boot, Sigalet has teamed with EMD Serono, an organization that does research toward curing M.S. For every save Sigalet makes this year, Serono donates $20 to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To date, the netminder has made 544 saves, meaning EMD Serono will donate $10,880 to the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sigalet is often among the first to speak at engagements and to various local and national media outlets regarding his disease and he has proven to be an inspiration to many fans and teammates alike to be able to succeed at such a high level.

In recognition of his efforts, Sigalet will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to P-Bruins home game on Sunday, April 15.

Sigalet is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.

Providence begins a four-game road trip this weekend with a pair of games on Friday, April 6 in Connecticut against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Saturday back in Massachusetts versus the Lowell Devils. The P-Bruins' final home game of the regular season is Sunday, April 15 against the Manchester Monarchs, a free team poster giveaway day to the first 4,000 fans in attendance. Information on tickets and Providence Bruins season ticket packages for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team's ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website www.providencebruins.com.
