ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats are proud to announce that defenseman Mitch Love has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Albany community during the 2006-07 season.

Love has been among the most active players in the River Rats community relations efforts this season which has totaled 107 appearances to date. The second-year pro has made appearances at all team functions, including school visits to speak to children about education, responsibility and life goals and charitable events such as "River Rats Have a Heart" celebrity bartending to benefit the American Heart Association, getting a haircut to benefit Breast Cancer awareness, and participating in a bowl-a-thon for the Ronald McDonald House Love Build program.

In recognition of his efforts, Love will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming River Rats game.

Love is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia.
