Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms are proud to announce that left wing Riley Cote has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Greater Philadelphia Region during the 2006-07 season.

Cote is known as an enforcer in hockey circles, having amassed 645 penalty minutes in 166 games with the Phantoms over the past three seasons. But those in the Phantoms/Flyers organization know him as a tirelessly hard worker who's very hard to beat to the rink in the morning and is always the first one in the dressing room on gameday.

Off the ice, Cote is always willing to help out in the community. He is one of the most popular players in franchise history, known for his friendliness towards fans. Every time the Phantoms hold a team event for the general public, a community group, or season ticket holders, Cote is always the first one in the door and the last one to leave. Over the past three seasons with the Phantoms, Cote has participated in many community service projects, including school readings, summer camps, fan-related events, hospital visits, a blanket donation drive, and many more. And his contributions didn't stop while he was hurt - while rehabbing an ankle injury this season, he made several visits to schools and community groups with his foot in a cast.

Occasionally the Phantoms offer locker-room tours to children with varying medical conditions, and Cote is always waiting by the door to show them around. Whether the team's won or lost that night, Cote is ready to introduce the kids to all the players and help them collect autographs and get photos.

Cote's team spirit was perhaps most apparent on March 25, the day after his NHL debut. It was the annual Photo Night for the Phantoms, where fans are able to come onto the ice and take photos with their favorite players. Rather than disappoint fans who were hoping to meet him, Cote came to the event anyway and participated with the rest of the Phantoms.

In recognition of his efforts, Cote will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Phantoms home game.

Cote is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears and Philadelphia Flyers forward, and AHL All-Star, who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
