Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators are proud to announce that winger Bobby Robins has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Binghamton community during the 2006-07 season.
Robins, in his first full season with the Senators, was a mainstay at community and charity events this season. The 25-year-old participated in team fundraising events including the "Binghamton Senators Charity Golf Classic," The Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Spaghetti on Ice Dinner," the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night Walk," and the annual "Toys for Tots Spaghetti Dinner."
In addition to these team events, Robins visited many local schools to read to children or answer questions from curious youngsters. His charisma shined through at these appearances, as the children always wanted Bobby to stay awhile longer. He helped kick off "Teen Read Week," a national literacy program, at the Broome County Public Library.
Robins, a native of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, spent an afternoon lifting spirits at Binghamton General Hospital, as he stopped into the dialysis unit and talked with patients. Bobby signed autographs, took pictures and handed-out Binghamton Senators' T-shirts to over fifty people. Dialysis often takes several hours, and patients were very happy that Bobby took time out of his schedule to make the time go by a little faster.
In recognition of his efforts, Robins will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Senators home game.
Robins is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
