Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to announce that forward Corey Locke has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty / AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hamilton community during the 2006-07 season.

Locke, despite playing in all 73 games this season to date, has been one of the most active players in the Bulldogs' community relations efforts this season. He was once again the player representative for the Bulldogs' annual 'TD Canada Trust Smiles on Ice' game, an event that has now raised over 200,000 in the last 11 years. Locke, in conjunction with the Hamilton Bulldogs and former Yanick Dupre Award winner Mike Minard, also created the 'Locke's Little 84's' ticket program for less fortunate children. Through this project to date, Locke has helped contribute over 400 tickets, valued at over $10,000, to the McMaster Children's Hospital.

The 2005 AHL All-Star made appearances at all team functions, including the "Molson Canadian Hamilton Bulldogs Charity Golf Classic," "Season Ticket Holder Pick-Up Party," "Youth Fund Fantasy Draft," "McMaster Children's Hospital Christmas Visit," "Youth Fund Casino Night," and the "Kids Club Autograph Session". On top of that, Locke was one of the team leaders in regularly scheduled player appearances for the hockey club, including minor hockey appearances, school appearances and autograph signings. Locke enjoyed giving back to the youth hockey community and was also active in attending local practices throughout the season. Like many of his teammates, he graciously gave of his time to speak at schools and visit patients at local hospitals.

In recognition of his efforts, Locke was awarded an etched crystal trophy as the Hamilton Bulldogs American Specialty / AHL Man of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Locke is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty / AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
