Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators failed to hold a first period lead falling to the Rochester Americans 2-1 on home ice.
The Binghamton Senators grabbed the lead on the game's first power-play chance 4:08 into the opening period. Zack Stortini redirected home a shot by Conor Allen past the Amerk's Nathan Lieuwen to give the B-Sens' captain his sixth goal of the year. Scott Greenham, who was fresh off his 33 save shutout performance last night in Rochester, continued his strong play stopping all seven shots faced in the first frame to keep the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Amerks used a pair of second period power-play goals to take a 2-1 lead over the hosts. Dan Catenacci net his sixth score of the season 5:51 into the frame before Jerome Leduc sent home his team-leading fifth power-play strike with less than eight minutes remaining in the period to give the visitors the 2-1. Rochester took the lead into the final break outshooting Binghamton 13-6 over the middle period.
Despite several chances, Lieuwen and the Amerks held the 2-1 lead during the third period to take the game over the B-Sens.
Greenham finished with 28 saves in the losing effort while Lieuwen picked up the win stopping 22 shots.
Binghamton returns to action next week with back-to-back home games Friday and Saturday night.
