Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Jake Fisher allowed only three hits in his first career complete game as the Windy City ThunderBolts defeated the Frontier Greys by a final score of 3-0 at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night.
Fisher got some early help when Coco Johnson led off the bottom of the first with a double. He advanced to third on a Mike Torres sacrifice bunt and scored on Jacob Tanis's sacrifice fly.
The Bolts added a run in the fourth when Max White reached on an error and eventually scored on a Ryan Tufts groundout.
Torres made ThunderBolts history when he walked in the fifth and promptly stole both second and third to move past Gilberto Mejia as the franchise's all-time stolen base leader with 140.
Windy City got some help scoring two runs in the sixth. An error allowed White to reach first and Ransom LaLonde reached on a fielder's choice. LaLonde would score on a Ryan Deitrich groundout. Tufts singled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
Fisher retired the first seven batters he faced and allowed only two hits in the first eight innings. He had retired 14 straight hitters entering the ninth before Sam Montgomery doubled to lead off the inning. Fisher came back to retire the next three hitters to finish the win.
Fisher improved to 1-0 with the win and Bobby Shore (0-1) allowed just one earned run in five innings but took the loss.
The ThunderBolts continue their season-opening six-game homestand Saturday night with game two of their two-game series against the Greys. Austin Wright gets the call for the Bolts and the Greys will throw Kyle Bogese. It is the second fireworks night of the year at Standard Bank Stadium courtesy of Elegant Limosuine. It is also Armed Forces Day; the ThunderBolts would like to show their appreciation for service members, both past and present, by allowing them to receive two free tickets to the game if they show a valid ID. First pitch is at 6:05 and the radio broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
