Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release
Des Moines, Iowa - Playing in their first road game of the season, the Oklahoma City Dodgers continued their hot start with a 3-2 victory over the Iowa Cubs Friday night at Principal Park.
Both teams were held scoreless through three innings, but Chris Heisey put the Dodgers (7-2) on the board in the fourth inning when he blasted his third home run of the season.
The Dodgers added a pair of runs in the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, pinch hitter Matt Carson sent a slow ground ball up the third base line for an infield RBI single to make it 2-0. Darnell Sweeney followed with a single to right field to score Chris Heisey, but Buck Britton was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.
Iowa (4-4) answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, when Chris Valaika connected on a two-out single to trim OKC's lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the eighth, John Andreoli led off with a walk and stole second base. Dodgers reliever Josh Ravin then struck out Rubi Silva, but there was a wild pitch on strike three, allowing Silva to reach base and Andreoli to advance to third base.
Two batters later, Valaika hit a fly ball in foul territory deep down the right field line. Scott Schebler reached into the stands to make the catch, on what turned out to be a sacrifice fly as Andreoli scored. Ravin followed with a strikeout of Adron Chambers to end to inning.
With none on and one out in the ninth, O'Koyea Dickson made a full extension grab diving toward the left field line to take an extra-base hit away from Christian Villanueva.
The highlight reel catch ended up being part of a 1-2-3 inning for David Aardsma, who collected his third save of the season.
Dodgers starting pitcher Mike Bolsinger turned in a second straight strong start to begin his 2015 season. Before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth, Bolsinger (2-0) threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Through his first two starts of the season, Bolsinger has now tossed 11 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and three walks with 17 strikeouts.
Making his season debut, Tsuyoshi Wada picked up the loss for Iowa. Wada (0-1) was charged with one run and four hits over 4.2 innings. The lefty struck out six and walked two.
The Dodgers and I-Cubs continue their series Saturday night at 7:08 p.m. Live coverage begins at 6:38 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game", 1340thegame.com, or through the iHeartRadio mobile app.
