-SPIKES START NEW ERA ON OPENING NIGHT: The State College Spikes hit the field for the first time in 2013 tonight as they take on the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) on Opening Night in a SawBuck Series matchup . This will be the first matchup between Cardinals and Phillies affiliates in the SawBuck Series, as when the Spikes were last a Cardinals affiliate in 2006, the Crosscutters were at the time affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Spikes went 39-36 under manager Mark DeJohn in 2006, still the best record in franchise history. The Spikes last won a season series against Williamsport outright in 2006, when they took eight of 12 meetings from the ‘Cutters.

-LAST SEASON: The Spikes were an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012, and went 35-41 to place fifth in the six-team Pinckney Division. Williamsport took the season series from the Spikes last year, 7-5.

-BAUTISTA TO MAKE OPENING START FOR SPIKES: One day after his birthday, right-hander Juan Bautista gets the Opening Night start for State College on the mound. A native of the Dominican Republic, Bautista started this year by making three starts with the Cardinals' Advanced-A affiliate in Palm Beach, winning his last start on June 6 against the Tampa Yankees. Bautista pitched for Spikes manager Oliver Marmol last year at Rookie-level Johnson City. The 20-year-old also held left-handed hitters to just a .158 average for the Dominican Summer League Cardinals in 2011.

-ROBERTSON TO MAKE GAME TWO START FOR TIGERS: Right-hander Mitch Gueller (prounounced GULL-er) gets the ball for Williamsport tonight. The supplemental first-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012, Gueller began his pro career with the Gulf Coast League Phillies last year, going 1-5 with a 5.27 ERA in eight appearances, six of them starts. The 19-year-old was drafted out of William F. West High School in Rochester, WA.

-SAME FACES, NEW PLACES: Spikes fans will see some familiar names as pitcher Ben O'Shea, catcher Adam Lewis, infielders Bruce Caldwell and David Washington, and outfielders Steven Ramos and Matthew Young return to the New York-Penn League. The six Cardinals farmhands played for the Batavia Muckdogs last year, with all but Caldwell playing at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park as members of the visiting team in 2012.

-SAME FACES, NEW PLACES, PART 2: The Spikes will also welcome eight players who were members of the Rookie-level Johnson City team that made the Appalachian League playoffs under current Spikes manager Oliver Marmol in 2012 - Pitchers Juan Bautista, Victor DeLeon, Willy Paulino and Jeff Rauh, infielders Carson Kelly, Trevor Martin and Cesar Valera, and outfielder Ronald Castillo.

-SPIKE MARKS: David Washington was tied for third in the NYPL in home runs last year with nine...Tonight marks the first time the Spikes will begin the season at home since 2009...DeJohn, the Spikes' manager in the inaugural season, is at the ballpark in his role as Cardinals' minor league field coordinator
