IronBirds Set For Opening Day
June 17, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Opening Day
The IronBirds welcome the Hudson Valley Renegades to Ripken Stadium tonight to officially kick off the 2013 New York Penn League season. The two teams will play three games against each other this week before the IronBirds hit the road for six games against the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Staten Island Yankees.
Good to see you, old friend!
The Renegades are the team the IronBirds play most often again this season. After hosting the Renegades for three, the IronBirds will make a trip up to Dutchess Stadium July 1-3. The Renegades won't return to Ripken Stadium until August 19-20.
Trying to reverse a trend...
The IronBirds struggled against the Renegades in 2012. In the 14 matchups, Hudson Valley was the victor in all but one. The lone IronBirds win came at Dutchess Stadium on June 18th (the second game of the season). The 'Birds took home an 8-3 win.
Nine is Fine
For the ninth straight year, the IronBirds and Renegades will do battle on Opening Day. Aberdeen is 3-1 all-time at home on Opening Day against the Renegades, and the two teams have split four games in Wappingers Falls, New York.
On the mound tonight...
RHP Sebastian Vader is back for a second season in Aberdeen. Last season, he was 1-8, with a 3.71 ERA in 14 games for the IronBirds. He got the start on Opening Day last season against the Renegades as well. He'll go up against Hudson Valley's Jordan Harrison. Harrison pitched in four games last season, going 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA. In tomorrow night's match-up, the IronBirds will send RHP David Richardson to the bump, and Hudson Valley will counter with LHP Chris Kirsch. In the series finale, RHP Luc Rennie will make his IronBirds' debut, while RHP John Farrell will get the call for the Renegades.
Home again
The IronBirds will return home on Wednesday, June 26th when they open up a five game home stand with two against the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Staten Island Yankees will make their first visit to Ripken Stadium in 2013 beginning Friday, June 28th.
