
CT Tigers Open Season with Tough Loss

Norwich, CT - The Lowell Spinners (1-0) defeat the Connecticut Tigers (0-1) on Opening Night of the NYP-League 1-0. There was a pitchers duel through the first five innings. Lowell RHP Sergio Gomez tossed five scoreless innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out eight. Tigers LHP Alex Phillips (0-0) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits.
The game was scoreless through 8 innings when the Spinners managed to gather the first run of the game following an error by 2B Dominic Ficociello (0-4) that scored LF Kendrick Perkins (0-3) to make the game 1-0. The Tigers threatened in the ninth inning. RF Casey Coffman (1-3) walked and moved to second base when 1B Patrick Leyland (0-3) hit a sacrifice bunt. The winning pitcher RHP Jonathan Aro (1-0) managed to strikeout DH Duncan McAlpine (0-4) and Ficociello. RHP Bret Huber (0-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers.
Tigers Tracks: RHP Brenny Paulino and LHP Ryan Longstreth have both been placed on the 60 day DL.
The Spinners and Tigers wrap up their two-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Dodd Stadium. Tuesday is one dollar hot dog night sponsored by Kayem. It is also Tuesday Night Senior Night presented by PierceCare: Independent, Assisted, Nursing & Rehab Care. In the final game of the home stand, Connecticut RHP Jonathan Maciel (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face off against Lowell RHP Mario Alcantara (0-0, 0.00).
