Lake Erie Crushers News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Lake Erie offense went to work again on Sunday, as they pounded out eight runs on 14 hits, and came away with an 8-4 victory on Sunday over the Rockford Aviators to avoid a sweep.
The victory for the Crushers (11-16) snapped a three game slide while the loss for the Aviators (6-20) prevented what would have been their first sweep of the season.
Lake Erie's offense scored 25 runs on 35 hits over the final two games of the series, while Alex Kaminsky (2-3) tossed seven strong innings and held an early lead to assist in the victory.
Lake Erie scored several runs early on, and snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the second. Daniel Bowman walked to start the inning, and stole second before a pair of groundouts moved him around and he scored on Seth Granger's groundout.
The Crushers added two more in the third, on Anderson Hidalgo's second homer in as many nights on an opposite field homerun to give the Crushers a 3-0 advantage.
Three more came across for the Crushers in the fourth inning to give them a commanding, 6-0 advantage. Juan Sanchez drove in the first run on a base hit to score Ricardo Lizcano, before Hidalgo knocked in his third run of the day on an RBI single. Andrew Davis capped the big inning with a two-out RBI double. The Crushers added one more in the fifth on Lizcano's RBI single.
As they had one night earlier, the Aviators would not go down quietly. Chase Larsson belted a two-run homer to put them on the board in the bottom of the seventh, and they scored again on a Michael Hur's two-out RBI single in the eighth.
Lake Erie plated one final insurance run in the ninth, on Granger's two-out RBI double. Rockford stroked three straight singles to start the ninth inning, and it was Ray Delvalle's base hit that scored Kenny Bryant to plate the final run of the contest before Dale Dickerson settled in and retired the next three batters to end the game.
Kaminsky tossed six scoreless innings before allowing the two-run homer in the seventh, and allowed three runs on seven hits while fanning five over seven innings to score the victory. Rockford's Jon Gulbransen (1-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings of action.
For the second night in a row, six Crushers hit safely more than once. Hidalgo went 2-for-5 and drove in three on the night, giving him six RBI's in the series. Davis's two-hit performance extended his hitting streak to 17 games, while Moldenhauer hit safely twice, giving him four consecutive multi-hit games. Bowman, Lizcano and Sanchez all hit safely twice as well.
The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three game series against the Normal Cornbelters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday night. The Crushers will start left hander Dave Middendorf (3-2, 3.05) and the Cornbelters will start left hander Ryan Demmin (2-1, 1.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
