SAUGET, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, lost the completion of a suspended game 4-3 but rebounded for a 6-5 win in the nightcap against the Gateway Grizzlies on Sunday at GCS Ballpark. The CornBelters continue the road trip with Monday off and a three-game series beginning Tuesday in suburban Cleveland against the Lake Erie Crushers.

The CornBelters had just taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning with two outs when rain forced suspension of the contest on Saturday night. The lead didn't last long as Jonathan Johnson walked with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a double just inside the third base bag by Jose Flores to even the game at 3-3. The Grizzlies loaded the bases in the ninth beginning with a single to center by Vladimir Frias, who stole second and took third on a misplayed ground ball, then scored on a base hit up the middle by Jonathan Johnson for the win.

Alan Oaks (2-1) resumed the game on the mound and took the loss while Zac Treece (4-0) pitched a perfect ninth for the win.

In the nightcap, the CornBelters scored first with a two-out rally as David Medina laced a single up the middle to score Matt Wright from third base.

The Belters added a crooked number in the second inning with three walks followed by a towering grand slam home run to left center by Pat McKenna to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Grizzlies entered the scoring column in the second inning when Landon Hernandez led off with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Antone DeJesus to cut the Belters lead to 5-1.

T.J. Gavlik lined a homer to the right field lawn in the third inning to put Normal ahead 6-1, but the Grizzlies countered in the bottom of the third with a lead-off homer to right by Jonathan Johnson to cut the Belters lead to 6-2 after three innings, then used another long ball to left by Jose Flores in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-3.

In a steady rain in the final inning, the Grizzlies used two hits and two walks plus a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to a run, but a strikeout with the potential tying and winning runs on base ended the game.

Ross Davis (2-2) earned the win while Ja'Vaun West (4-1) suffered the loss. Casey Upperman picked up his fourth save.
