Southern Illinois Miners News Release
Crestwood, IL - Southern Illinois was defeated by Windy City on Sunday 8-0 at Standard Bank Stadium. Miners starting pitcher Brian Oliver allowed five runs over five innings and struck out five batters. The Miners offense recorded four total hits.
Southern Illinois fell behind early as Windy City scored four runs off Miners starter Brian Oliver in the bottom of the first inning. The ThunderBolts batted through the order in the inning. Windy City added another run off Oliver in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.
The Thunderbolts added a run (unearned) off Miners reliever Cody Hall in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 6-0. Jon Mark Abbey pitched a scoreless eighth inning despite giving up two singles to begin the inning. Ronal Uviedo allowed two runs on a two run home run by Zach Aakhus, which allowed Windy City to take a 8-0 lead. The Miners are now 14-13 on the regular season.
Southern Illinois is off on Monday but will return to action on Tuesday at Rent One Park as they welcome in the Gateway Grizzlies. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Mike Ventola will have the call on the Miners Radio Network beginning at 6:45 pm with the Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show.
