JOLIET SLAMMERS (11-15) @ TRAVERSE CITY BEACH BUMS (15-11)

Sunday, June 16 - 4:05 p.m. CT Wuerfel Park - Traverse City, MI

Game #27 - Road Game #12 (11-15), (4-7)

RHP #14 Brett Zawacki (1-2, 3.71 ERA) vs. RHP #38 Jake Sabol (4-1, 0.97 ERA)

Last time out...

For the second straight night the Slammers were victimized by a big inning as the Beach Bums scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Slammers Saturday night. Joliet fell behind 1-0 in the first when Taylor Wrenn smacked a solo home run. The Slammers tied the game in the fourth when David Christensen doubled in Michael Wing. Joliet would grab the lead in the sixth as Nate Wilder doubled to start the inning. Wing followed with a perfect bunt on the first base side. Wing was safe at first and Wilder scored on an error by Traverse City pitcher Johnny Omahen. But the 2-1 lead would not last as Joliet starter Evan Anundsen ran into a wall in the bottom of the frame. After a one-out walk, four straight hits scored three runs for the Beach Bums, chasing Anundsen from the game. They'd add one more on a bases loaded walk for the 6-2 lead.

For Starters...

Brett Zawacki is coming off a solid outing against the River City Rascals on Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field. He went six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits. Zawacki struck out seven and only walked one. The Illinois native brings a history of success in affiliated baseball to Joliet. The right-hander advanced as high as Double-A in the Cardinals organization. St. Louis made Zawacki their 12th round selection out of LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 2007. Last season was Zawacki's first year in the Frontier League.

Trying to avoid the sweep...

The Slammers need a win today to avoid getting swept by the Beach Bums. Joliet has not been swept on the road so far in 2013 and the only time they have been swept came against Washington at Silver Cross Field May 29-30.

Road woes...

Joliet needs a win today to avoid a season-long three-game road losing streak.

Winging it...

Michael Wing has been a bright spot on offense this season for Joliet. He is leading the team in batting average at .303 and RBI with 16. His eight doubles are first on the team and his 13 runs scored are tied with Kyle Maunus for first on the squad.

Down but not out...

The Slammers are a season-high 7 games out of first place in the West.

Better when the game is close...

The Slammers have posted a 3-1 record in one-run games this season. However they are 8-14 when the game is decided by more than one run.

Power outage...

The Slammers have only hit seven home runs so far in 2013, the second fewest in the Frontier League.

Save me...

Justin Erasmus is tied for fourth in the Frontier League with five saves and the Slammers as a whole have six saves in six attempts so far in 2013.

Five is the magic number...

The Slammers are 8-1 when scoring 5 or more runs. They are only 3-14 when scoring fewer than 5 runs.

Get more hits!

Joliet has posted a 9-2 record when they out-hit the opponent. But they're 1-13 when out-hit.

They gone!!

Slammers' pitching has struck out 204 batters so far this season; second most in the Frontier League.

Transaction Wire...

The Slammers released RHP Jairo Acevedo, Catcher Kieran Bradford and OF Erick Gaylord following Thursday's double header. They signed Catcher Kolin Conner and RHP Chris DeBoo.
