Maggard Drives in a Pair in Wednesday Loss

The first place SeaWolves had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon by the Akron Aeros 4-2 at Canal Park.

Akron grabbed a lead in the first inning against Erie starter Patrick Cooper. Tyler Hold led off with a triple and was doubled home by Justin Toole for a 1-0 lead. Toole came home on a two-out Carlos Moncrief double making it 2-0 Akron.

The SeaWolves tied the game in the top of the second against Akron starter Matt Packer. With two outs, Wade Gaynor reached on an error to extend the inning. Luis Castillo singled and Marcus Lemon walked, loading the bases for Zach Maggard. Maggard lined

a single to center, plating a pair, tying the game at 2-2.

The Aeros regained the lead in the third. Holt led off with a single for his second hit of the game. He moved to third on a Toole base hit and scored on a one-out Jesus Aguilar groundout for a 3-2 Akron edge.

Akron added to its lead in the seventh against reliever Michael Morrison. Toole led off, was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a walk. Toole moved to third on a double play ball and scored on a wild pitch making it 4-2 Aeros. The SeaWolves would get no closer.

Cooper (1-3) took the loss allowing three runs on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout.

The SeaWolves continue a seven-game road trip with a four-game series at Bowie on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Warwick Saupold (1-1, 2.50 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Eddie Gamboa (0-2, 3.82 ERA).
