New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - John Tolisano had two hits and drove home two runs, but the Fisher Cats (15-19) saw their comeback bid fall a run short in a 5-4 loss to the New Britain Rock Cats (18-15) on Wednesday afternoon. The loss results in a three-game sweep at the hands of the Rock Cats, leaving New Hampshire with a 3-3 record on their six-game homestand.
The Fisher Cats were playing from behind right away as the Rock Cats plated four runs in the top of the first against starter Marcus Walden (L; 1-4). Their comeback began in the third with Jack Murphy singling home Kevin Ahrens to make it a 4-1 game.
New Britain tagged one more in the fifth against Walden, who allowed all five (four earned) New Britain runs. But, in the bottom of the inning, Tolisano laced a single to left to bring home another run and make it a 5-2 game.
The seventh saw another rally for the Fisher Cats to make it a one run game. With one out, Amadeo Zazueta delivered Murphy with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-3. Two batters later, Tolisano's gap-shot double made it a 5-4 game.
That's as close as the Fisher Cats could come, stranding Tolisano at second base in the seventh. They put the tying run on the bases in the ninth, but New Britain closer Mike Tonkin closed the door to seal New Britain's sweep.
Tolisano and Kevin Pillar combined for four hits at the top of the order. The bottom three hitters - Ahrens, Murphy, and Zazueta - accounted for four hits as well, driving home two and scoring all four New Hampshire runs. It was the middle of the line-up that scuffled, going a combined 0-16.
The Fisher Cats now hit the road for a four-game weekend series with the Trenton Thunder beginning Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Deck McGuire (1-3, 5.34) starts the opener against Trenton RHP Zach Nuding (1-3, 2.27). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home for their first match-up with the Future Red Sox on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. The series features a cap giveaway courtesy FairPoint Communications and an Atlas Fireworks show. To order tickets and check out the full promotional schedule, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
