Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals Hockey Club is proud to announce that during the 2012-13 WHL season the team has helped raise over $350,000 for local organizations and charitable causes through a variety of promotions and initiatives. The Royals surpassed their charitable contributions total from their inaugural season in 2011-12.
Victoria's annual Pink in the Rink game held on January 26th was a huge success once again as fans and sponsors combined to help raise more than $37,000 in support of the BC Cancer Foundation, a new record for the organization.
This season also saw the Royals continue the Stop Hunger Campaign in conjunction with Shields Harney Law Firm. For every save made by a Royals' goaltender during the regular season, a pound of non-perishable food was donated, totaling 2,018 lbs of food, as a well as a cash donation of $3,500 to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
The Royals' annual Canadian Forces Appreciation Night fundraising efforts generated over $11,000 in support of the Military Family Resource Centre, Royal Canadian Naval, Air and Army Cadets as well as the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
The Royals again partnered with Major Cash this season as $10 from every goal scored at home was donated by Major Cash to KidSport Victoria. The Royals were proud to work with KidSport Victoria once again this year, an organization that works tirelessly to give local children opportunities to play sports.
Last season, more than $175,000 has been raised through 50/50 and Chuck-A-Puck sales at Royals' home games, with proceeds going towards local charitable organizations primarily minor hockey associations in Greater Victoria.
Marty the Marmot and his tireless efforts in the community have helped generate over $17,000 for a variety of charitable causes and organizations. The Victoria Royals have also donated over $450 from sales of Mini Marty stuffed animals in the past year to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation.
Merchandise and suite donations totaling over $12,000 have also been made on behalf of the team to various organizations and associations in the capital region.
Ticket donations worth more than $7,000 were given out this season, as well as discounted group rates on tickets which contributed more than $24,000 to local organizations.
