Late-Game Heroics Lead Warriors over Vipers

HIDALGO, Tex. - The Santa Cruz Warriors used a 24-8 fourth quarter to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 114-104 Friday night.
The Warriors were led by Stefhon Hannah, who scored 22 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Hilton Armstrong recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards, while Cameron Jones added 15 points - including a clutch three-pointer to put the Warriors ahead for good with 2:42 left in the game.
The Vipers were paced by Chris Johnson, who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Chris Daniels scored 19 points, while D.J. Kennedy had 11 boards. Royce White, on assignment from the Houston Rockets, scored 13.
Tied at 52 at the half, Rio Grande Valley surged ahead with a 44 point third quarter, the most any team has scored against the Warriors in any quarter this season. Up by as much as 16, the Vipers went cold in the fourth quarter, including a six minute scoring drought, and only scored eight points, which is a season-low for opponents in the fourth. The Warriors went on a 24-2 run to end the game.
Santa Cruz outshot Rio Grande Valley (46.6%-40.9%), and the Warriors won the rebound battle (56-50), dished out more assists (22-20) and scored more points in the paint (56-46).
