Texas Stars News Release
HOUSTON, TX - Alex Chiasson scored his first goal of the year, but it was not enough as they Texas Stars were beaten by the Houston Aeros 5-1 Friday night at Toyota Center.
Houston had the better start in the first period, as they out-shot the Stars 8-2 over the first ten minutes of play. Rookie Charlie Coyle opened the scoring at 4:49 as he deposited a rebound from a Drew Bagnall shot past Texas goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Late in the period the Aeros doubled their lead on a power play goal by Marco Scandella at 18:12. Scandella's goal was initially waived off by referee Jeff Smith, but the goal light came on and the horn sounded, leading to the first ever video review in a Texas Stars game. After a short review, the goal stood and the Aeros carried their 2-0 lead into the second period.
After a scoreless middle frame, the Stars got on the board and cut the lead in half early in the third period. Rookie right wing Alex Chiasson opened his goal scoring account when he tipped in a shot at 4:52, assisted by Francis Wathier and Jamie Oleksiak. The goal cut Houston's lead to 2-1 and gave Texas a some much needed momentum. However, David McIntyre quelled the Stars energy with a goal at 9:44 and Zack Phillips scored an unassisted goal at 13:46 to give the Aeros a 4-1 lead. In the final minute of play Brian Connelly scored a power play goal at 19:13 to complete the scoring and give the home side a four-goal win.
Houston goaltender Matt Hackett finished with 26 saves on 27 shots for his first win of the season, while Texas goalie Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 25-of-30 shots as he took his first loss of the year. The Aeros out-shot the Stars 30-27 and went 2-for-4 on the power play; Texas was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Texas and Houston will complete their home-and-home series with a 7:00 pm face off on Saturday, October 20th at Cedar Park Center. The first 2,500 fans entering the building will receive a Fleece Jersey Scarf presented by H-E-B. Pro-rated full and partial 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now.
