Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins erased a third-period deficit, only to see the Springfield Falcons pull back ahead for a 4-2 victory at MassMutual Center. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had a goal and two assists for Springfield.
For two periods, Falcons goalie Curtis McElhinney frustrated the Penguins offense, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would battle back with a pair of power play goals.
Rookie defenseman Joe Morrow notched his first goal with a rocket slapshot that hit the back of the net at 6:44. Less than two minutes after Morrow's tally, Philippe Dupuis deflected Beau Bennett's shot past McElhinney to even the score, 2-2.
Springfield needed only 2:29 to take back its lead as a Penguins turnover left Cam Atkinson in front to tap-in a backdoor pass from Audy-Marchessault.
With the Penguins looking to find the equalizer, a 3-on-1 rush the other way by the Falcons was finished by Ryan Johansen to up the lead to 4-2 with 3:58 remaining in regulation.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton got into penalty trouble early in the match and the Falcons would capitalize during a two-man advantage. Springfield won an offensive zone draw and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault fired home a one-timer from the point at 5:43.
The Falcons struck off of another faceoff win when John Moore floated a wrist from the blue line that found its way past Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff for a 2-0 with five minutes left in the first.
The Penguins will open up their home schedule on Saturday, October 20 at 7:05 P.M. against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Individual seats for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, and by calling 800-745-3000.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton season ticket packages, including Full Season, 22-game, 12-game and Flexbook plans, are available by contacting the Penguins directly at 570-208-7367.
