Falcons Close out Preseason with 4-1 Victory over Bruins

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons finished off their preseason schedule with a 4-1 win over the Providence Bruins on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, who netted a hat trick in Springfield's 4-3 victory over the Worcester Sharks on Friday, struck two more times for a five-goal weekend.

John Moore started the scoring for the Falcons at 4:00 of the opening frame, wristing in a puck past a Sean Collins screen to give Springfield an early 1-0 lead.

Trent Whitfield evened the contest up at 11:34, backhanding in a rebound from the slot resulting from a Lane MacDermid shot to tie the game, 1-1.

Audy-Marchessault put Springfield in front for good early in the second, redirecting a Moore blue-line bid at 1:34 to reclaim the Falcons' advantage, 2-1. The second-year pro further ignited his hot streak with his fifth goal of the weekend and second of the night later in the period, snapping in a rebound with Springfield on a power play at 14:34 to increase Springfield's lead to 3-1.

Ryan Craig fired in a centering feed from Andrew Joudrey at 12:19 to pad the Falcons' lead, 4-1.

Curtis McElhinney secured the victory in net for Springfield with a 23-save effort. Hutchinson suffered the loss in goal for Providence with 25 saves on 29 shots.

With the victory, the Falcons closed out their preseason with a 2-1-0-0 record.

The Falcons kick off the 2012-2013 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they host the St. John's IceCaps at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m. to begin their 19th AHL campaign.
