Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City......The El Paso Diablos pounded the Explorers 10-1 here at Lewis and Clark Park in the first game of a three-game series. The loss was the fourth straight for the Explorers who have now lost ten of their last 12 games. Starting pitcher Richard Salazar was the brunt of the El Paso bats Friday as the lefthander gave up seven runs on 12 hits in five innings, his shortest start since joining the Explorers last July. The Diablos had the bases loaded with none out in the third inning and Salazar got out of the inning by giving up only one run. However, in the fifth inning he wasn't as fortunate as six runs crossed the plate including a grand slam home run by Mitch Einertson, his first home run since joining the Diablos from Wichita a couple of weeks ago. On the offensvie side, the Explorers could muster only seven hits and one run off Scott Hodsdon who pitched a complete game, the first complete game of the year pitched by El Paso. The only run the Explorers scored was in the seventh inning when Mike Bisenius started the inning with a single and later scored on a RBI single by Kris Sanchez. The two teams will meet again Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
