67's Draft Two Imports

(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that Czech LW Ladislav Zikmund was their first pick (51st overall) in the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. 17 yr old Zikmund, a 5.11, 175lb Winger, played for Karlovy in the CZE junior league.

The 67's then drafted Slovak RW Richard Mraz (54th overall) with a pick acquired from the Kitchener Rangers. Mraz, 19 yr old, 6.02, 194 lb RW, Slovak, played for Tatranskie Volki last season, scoring 11 goals and recording 21 points in 29 games.

"We're very happy that Zikmund was still available when our first pick came up," said 67's Head Coach and General Manager Chris Byrne. "He is a smart skilled player who has lots of upside. We look forward to seeing him at our main training camp in August.

"Mraz is a is a big right winger that fills a need for our team. He has international experience playing along side Mike Cajkovski on the Slovak U20 team at the World Junior Championship last year."

The annual CHL Import Draft involves teams from the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The draft order is determined by the number of points a team recorded during the previous regular season (low to high). CHL teams are each permitted to carry two import players on their active roster during the season.
