Barrie, ON - The Barrie Colts are proud to announce today that they have selected left-winger Samu Markkula with the 45th overall selection in the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

The 18-year old from Jyvaskyla, Finland played last season with the JYP Juniors and posted 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points in 39 games played.

"Markkula is a tenacious kid who plays the game hard and has a very good skill set. He is a character kid who brought up the notion himself about coming to play Major Junior hockey", said Colts GM Jason Ford.

The 5'9", 172-pound forward is expected to join the Colts for the 2012-13 season.

"He plays with passion, skates well and will help the hockey club in the immediate future. He played an important role for Team Finland at the World U-18 Championships this past spring", added Ford.
