Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Oklahoma City, OK - Will Smith pitched 7 2/3 strong innings and David Lough knocked in a pair of runs as Omaha upended Oklahoma City, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon in the last of a four-game set at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers grabbed the last three games of the series to improve to 49-30.
Anthony Seratelli, who homered to start the scoring in each of the last two games, was again involved in the first run when he opened the contest with a triple and scored on a Johnny Giavotella sacrifice fly. The visitors extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Derrick Robinson walked and scored on a Kevin Kouzmanoff double. OKC starter Armando Galarraga took the loss after yielding the two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three over six innings.
Sergio Perez retired the Chasers in order in the seventh and gave way to Jose Valdez, who set down the first hitter he faced in the eighth before running into a bunch of trouble. Clint Robinson singled in a run and Lough doubled in a pair to lengthen the lead to 5-0 and chase the right-hander from the hill after he had allowed hits to five straight batters.
Smith kept the RedHawks blanked on four hits and did not allow a runner to advance past second base through the first seven innings. The hosts finally got on the board with two outs in the eighth when Wil Myers and Lough collided in pursuit of a fly ball, allowing it to land and Carlos Corporan to score from second base. The 22-year-old southpaw was then removed from the mound and replaced by Brandon Sisk, who recorded the last four outs to sew up the Chasers seventh victory in eight meetings with OKC. Smith earned his second win of the season, and first since May 11, after permitting five hits, striking out seven and not issuing a walk in matching his longest outing of the season.
The Storm Chasers open a three-game series at Werner Park Wednesday night with right-hander Jake Odorizzi taking the mound against New Orleans right-hander Tom Koehler. Coverage of the game begins at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
