Nick Green had three hits and two RBI as the New Orleans Zephyrs rolled past the Memphis Redbirds 6-4 for the series win on Tuesday at Zephyr Field.
The Zephyrs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Green singled to right field with one out before Donnie Murphy blasted a home run over the left field wall. It was Murphy's fourth home run in just 12 games since joining New Orleans.
In the third, Kevin Mattison doubled down the right field line, followed by a walk from Gil Velazquez. Mattison stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Bryan Petersen. Mike Cervenak drew a walk and scored, along with Velazquez, on Green's double over Cedric Hunter's head in deep center field to go up 5-0.
Memphis finally got on the board in the sixth inning after Steven Hill reached on an error by Green at third base and Matt Adams doubled down the right field line. Zack Cox singled up the middle, scoring Hill. Pete Kozma then scored Adams on a sacrifice fly to deep center field to bring the Redbirds within three runs.
New Orleans added another run in the bottom of the eighth when Petersen laced a single into left and Cervenak reached on error by third baseman Cox. Green then singled to right-center to load the bases. Memphis reliever Nick Greenwood sent a wild pitch to the backstop, allowing Petersen to score.
Former Tulane star Mark Hamilton got the Redbirds to within 6-4 in the ninth on a two-run homer off Dan Jennings, who then got Hill on a ground out to end the game.
Wade LeBlanc (5-5) tabbed the win, allowing two runs - one earned - and nine hits over seven innings. He issued no walks and struck out seven.
Tyler Lyons (1-1) took the loss for Memphis, giving up five runs off four hits, including a home run and three walks, in three innings.
New Orleans will take the road for a three-game series in Omaha, followed by four games in Round Rock. Right-hander Tom Koehler (7-6) will take the mound for the Zephyrs on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., facing righty Jake Odorizzi (5-0) for Omaha.
