Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - The Lansing Lugnuts' (38-16) offense was stifled in a pair of losses against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (30-25) on Friday night at Bowling Green Stadium, losing 1-0 in 10 innings in a completed game from Thursday before dropping the seven-inning nightcap, 5-1.
The Lugnuts' offense scored just one run in the final 17 innings of the series as they lost back-to-back games on the road for the first time in 2012.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods resumed their suspended game from Thursday night in the top of the fifth inning with no score, keeping the game knotted at 0-0 until an anticlimactic tenth that saw the Lugnuts committed back-to-back errors to hand the Bowling Green the victory.
With Brandon Berl (Loss, 2-3) on the mound in the bottom of the 10th, Cameron Seitzer reached second base when Markus Brisker misplayed a fly ball in left field. Juniel Querecuto put a bunt down the third base line that Berl picked up and threw down the right field line to allow the winning run to score.
Justin Nicolino started the game for Lansing and looked very strong over four scoreless innings of one-hit ball in which the lefty struck out two and walked one.
Aaron Sanchez also dazzled with four scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
In the second game of the evening, the Lugnuts could not overcome a three-run first inning by the Hot Rods, losing just their third series of the season.
Jesse Hernandez (Loss, 4-3) allowed ten hits and five runs over six innings of work in which he struck out six and walked just one, recording the Lugs' first complete game in defeat.
Roberto Gomez (Win, 2-2) started for Bowling Green and allowed just one run over five innings before Justin Woodall (Save, 1) tossed two scoreless frames to secure the Hot Rods' three-game series victory.
In the losing cause, left fielder Kevin Pillar singled, doubled and drew a walk in four plate appearances.
The Lugs next head up to South Bend to continue their six-game road trip with a three-game series against the Silver Hawks starting on Saturday, June 2nd at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (4-1, 3.23) starts for Lansing opposite South Bend's Tyler Green (1-2, 3.23).
The Lugnuts will return home for a six-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, June 6th, at 7:05 p.m. with a Ladies Night against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
