
Tacoma Taken Down By Reno, 7-5

RENO, Nev. -- The Rainiers trailed early and never quite caught up in a 7-5 series-opening loss to the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark on Thursday.
The Aces rushed to a quick 3-0 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Third baseman Ryan Wheeler drove in the first run of the night with an RBI-double, and outfielder Cole Gillespie added two more with a double that plated Wheeler and designated hitter Randy Ruiz.
Reno's lead grew to as large as six runs before the Rainiers cut the club's 7-1 deficit down to three runs in the top of the seventh. Outfielder Trayvon Robinson hit a solo home run - his second over his last games - and Casper Wells drove in a pair of runs with a two-out triple that scored Luis Rodriguez and Carlos Triunfel.
Luery Bonilla attempted to spark a rally with his first career Triple-A home run with two outs in the ninth, but Triunfel struck out in the Rainiers final at-bat to extend Tacoma's losing streak to 11 games against Reno.
Tacoma combined to collected nine hits against the Aces, with Robinson and catcher Guillermo Quiroz both turning in two-hit efforts.
Starter Andrew Carraway was dealt his first Triple-A loss in his fourth start with the Rainiers after surrendering seven runs - four earned - on 12 hits over 5.0 innings, while walking one and striking out two. Relievers Brian Sweeney and Stephen Pryor combined to strike out three over 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (23-29) play the second leg of the club's four-game series at Reno (28-25) tomorrow, May 30. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (5-2, 5.15) looks to collect his team-leading sixth win of the season when gets the start for Tacoma against Aces right-hander Charles Brewer (1-4, 6.75). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
