Round Rock Express News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Bryan Anderson's pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Memphis Redbirds a 4-3 victory over the Round Rock Express in Wednesday night's Pacific Coast League action at AutoZone Park. The Express (23-31) fell to 2-4 on the current eight-game road trip with three one-run losses. The Sounds (19-34) won consecutive games for the first time since May 17-18.
Pete Kozma doubled with one out in the ninth. Cedric Hunter drew an intentional walk, and Anderson followed with a single to right, ending the game.
That made a winner of Fernando Salas (1-0), who pitched a perfect top of the ninth with two strikeouts. Memphis starter Joe Kelly surrendered two runs - one earned - on five hits and three walks over seven innings with two strikeouts. Maikel Cleto yielded a run on two hits with one strikeout in an inning of work.
Mark Hamburger (0-2) took the loss; he allowed a game-tying run in the eighth and the game-winning run in the ninth. Hamburger had two strikeouts and a walk, surrendering four hits over one-and-one-third innings. Starter Martin Perez held the Redbirds to one run on five hits and two walks over five and two-thirds innings with four walks.
Luis Hernandez tripled with one out in the first and scored on Yangervis Solate's ground out. That lead stood until the sixth when Lou Montanez drew a leadoff walk and later scored on Jamie Romak's sacrifice fly. The teams traded solo spots in each of the next two innings before Anderson's game-winning hit in the ninth.
Solarte was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; his was the lone multiple-hit game for the Express. Brad Nelson saw his franchise record-tying streak of consecutive games with a homer end at four. However, Nelson did push a hitting streak to six games, going 1-for-4; he has hit safely in 19 straight road games, the PCL's longest road streak this season.
Kozma was 2-for-4. Eugenio Velez had a game-tying leadoff homer in the seventh. Seven other Redbirds had one hit each.
Round Rock and Memphis continue their four-game series Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Greg Reynolds (3-4, 4.67 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Shelby Miller (4-3, 4.38 ERA) is slated to go for the Redbirds.
