Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Joe Martinez spun his third-straight victory Tuesday night, leading the Reno Aces to a 7-5 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
The Aces led early and withstood a late Tacoma rally, winning their 11th-straight game over the Rainiers and maintaining a hold on first place in the division.
Reno jumped out to a 7-1 lead through three innings and never looked back Tuesday night. The Rainiers carved into their deficit with three runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth, but they would get no closer.
Martinez (3-3) evened his record with his third-consecutive win, scattering a run on six hits with seven strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work. After Sam Demel and Jensen Lewis worked 1.0 and 1.1 innings, respectively, Jonathan Albaladejo recorded the final three outs in the ninth for the save.
The loss fell to Tacoma starter Andrew Carraway (2-1), who surrendered seven runs-four earned-on 12 hits over 5.0 frames.
At the dish for Reno, Randy Ruiz led the way with three hits and two runs scored. Four Aces batters registered two hits on the night, including Cole Gillespie, who added three RBIs. Reno finished 7-for-14 at the plate with runners in scoring position.
The series continues Wednesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark. RHP Charles Brewer (1-4, 6.75 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Rainiers will counter with LHP Anthony Vasquez (5-2, 5.15 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m., and it'll be another Aces WINSday, with a free general admission ticket on the line.
Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
