Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - Brian Bass fired six scoreless innings in his team debut and the Oklahoma City RedHawks (30-23) scored six times with two outs to defeat the Nashville Sounds (20-32) 7-2 before 2,986 Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Signed last week by the Astros, the veteran pitcher Bass (1-0) made a favorable impression by allowing five hits with one walk and two strikeouts over six frames.
Brett Wallace got the offense going with a solo home run in the first to make 1-0. It stayed that way until the fourth when Brandon Barnes delivered a two-out RBI single to double the lead.
The Sounds loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, but Bass got Jeff Bianchi to ground out to end the threat. A wild pitch by Adalberto Flores in the seventh scored a run and put runners at second and third with two outs for Nashville. Still leading 2-1, Flores recovered and Bianchi flew out to end the inning.
The Sounds finished the game 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 runners on base.
Scott Moore delivered a two-out, two-run single in the seventh to give the RedHawks their largest lead at 4-1. Leading 5-2 with two outs in the eighth, Angel Sanchez put the game away with a two-run homer-his second in as many games.
Nashville pitcher Seth McClung (1-5) allowed just one earned run over five innings but took the loss. He gave up four hits, walked two, and struck out three.
The RedHawks have won seven straight games at home as well as nine of 10 against the Sounds in 2012. They'll look to clinch a series victory Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It's another $1 beer night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, and tickets are available through the RedHawks box office, by calling (405) 218-1000, or online at okcredhawks.com.
Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio app on your mobile device.
