Padres' Rally Catches Las Vegas in Sixth

May 30, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres trailed by six runs in the sixth inning Tuesday and came back to beat the Las Vegas 51s, 11-10. The Padres sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and scored six times, one shy of a season high for runs in an inning. Matt Clark and Yasmani Grandal hit back-to-back home runs in the rally, which also saw an RBI single by Jedd Gyorko and a sacrifice fly from Blake Tekotte. With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, Gyorko blasted a high solo home run to left field to put the Padres ahead.

Josh Spence, Cory Burns and Brad Boxberger all tossed scoreless outings for the Padres late in the game, with Burns collecting his first win and Boxberger earning the save. Despite losing the game, the 51s pounded 19 hits, a season high for Las Vegas and six short of a franchise record. Tekotte went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a sacrifice fly in his return to Tucson after being optioned by San Diego. Anthony Contreras went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, his fourth longball of the season. Gyorko went 4-for-5 with three RBIs.

Major League veteran Tim Redding allowed all six runs in the Padres sixth inning comeback. The Padres are 19-33, in fourth place in the Pacific Southern division, 16 games out of first place.
