Sacramento River Cats News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Wes Timmons had three hits for the River Cats-including his first home run of the season-but the Cats fell to the Round Rock Express Tuesday night at The Dell Diamond, 11-5.
Michael Taylor gave Sacramento an early 1-0 lead with a first-inning RBI single, but that was the last lead the River Cats would hold in the game. With the score tied at one in the fourth, Round Rock erupted for six runs in the frame against Sacramento starter Brad Peacock (5-2), chasing the right-hander and taking a 7-1 lead. They would hold on for their second-straight win to open the series.
Peacock suffered the defeat, allowing seven earned runs in 3.2 innings of work, striking out three and walking two. The loss was Peacock's first since April 13, his second start of the season.
Round Rock starter Michael Kirkman (3-1) earned the win, holding Sacramento to two earned runs on four hits in five innings, and Mark Hamburger spun the final four frames to earn his first save of the season.
Brandon Hicks and Chris Carter also homered for the Cats, who now have gone deep 15 times in the first six games of their current eight-game road trip. Manny Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a walk, and has reached base safely in five of his last six plate appearances.
Sacramento and Round Rock continue the series Wednesday from The Dell Diamond, when Sacramento sends LHP Fabio Castro (1-4, 7.41 ERA) to the mound. He will be opposed by Express LHP Zach Jackson (1-4, 4.28 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT.
The River Cats will return home on Friday, May 25 to play the Reno Aces, with Manny Ramirez expected to make his Raley Field debut that night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and is a Toyota Family Value Friday, with $1 hot dogs and desserts for all fans.
