Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Oklahoma City Redhawks (26-19) handed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (23-22) their third consecutive loss 9-5 in a back-and-forth second game of the series, with three Redhawks homers providing seven of the nine Oklahoma City runs.
The deciding blow in the ballgame was delivered by Redhawks outfielder Brad Snyder, who smashed a three-run homer to center field to break open a 6-5 game with two outs in the ninth. The homer occurred one batter after the Sky Sox nearly ended the inning with a double play, but Redhawks third baseman Brett Wallace was able to beat out the throw to first to prolong the inning. The Redhawks came into the game leading the league in home runs, and have totaled 53 this season.
The Sky Sox jumped out to an early lead 2-0 by scoring in the first inning for the fourth time in the last six games with Colorado Springs stringing together three straight two-out hits including a RBI double for left-fielder Andrew Brown, who notched two RBI in the game to up his team-leading total to 28 this season. The Redhawks responded in the next half inning with a three-run shot by Wallace giving Oklahoma City the lead 3-2, and the Redhawks would not trail again as the Sky Sox were only able to get within a run the rest of the game.
The Sky Sox threatened the Oklahoma City lead by getting the first two batters on in the sixth and the seventh innings, but were only able collect one run from the two potential rallies, and Colorado Springs would only manage one baserunner the rest of the game. The Sky Sox put up double-digit hits for the second consecutive game in the series, but have lost seven games this season with double-digit hits.
Colorado Springs will look to get their first win in the series as they send out left-hander Drew Pomeranz (2-0, 0.00 ERA), who has yet to allow a run in 25.2 innings for Rockies Minor League affiliates since being traded to Colorado last July. He will match up against Redhawks right-hander Aneury Rodriguez (1-4, 4.89 ERA), who has not won a road start this season, at 6:05 p.m. MT Wednesday night.
