Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres pounded seven extra-base hits Monday night, beating the Memphis Redbirds, 9-3. The Padres scored three times in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Jonathan Roof and back-to-back solo home runs by Jedd Gyorko and Matt Clark. It was the second set of back-to-back home runs for the T-Pads in 2012; James Darnell and Carlos Quentin also did so on May 1 vs. Tacoma.
Tucson tallied four in the fourth inning with some help from the Redbirds. After a successful suicide squeeze bunt by Daniel Robertson to score Amadeo Zazueta, Jonathan Roof singled with two outs. Gyorko hit a high pop up in shallow center field and Memphis shortstop Ryan Jackson dropped it, allowing Roof to score. Tucson scored two more unearned runs with two outs on Yasmani Grandal's double. Grandal went 3-for-4 in the win.
Tucson starter Colt Hynes lasted until two outs in the eighth inning, allowing three runs. It was the first win of the season for Hynes and also his first career win as a starting pitcher. Erik Hamren recorded the final four outs of the game, and has not allowed a run in seven Triple-A outings this season.
Next Game: Tuesday, 7:05 pm - Memphis LHP Nick Additon (1-3, 5.32) vs. Tucson RHP Bear Bay (0-1, 9.45). Free ticket special at your local eegee's location. Game coverage begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
