
Grimes Rips Another Homer, Snappers Win 3-1 over LumberKings

Beloit, WI- Matt Summers picked up his third win of the season with a strong pitching performance going seven innings, allowing only one run, striking out five. At the plate, Tyler Grimes hit his second homer of the season, allowing the Snappers to top the Clinton LumberKings 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Snappers got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Knudson hit a leadoff single to start the inning, then Tyler Grimes ripped a 2-run homer to put the Snappers in the lead 2-0.
Clinton rallied back quick in the top of the sixth when Steven Baron doubled to lead off the inning. Guillermo Pimentel then ripped an RBI double to put the LumberKings on the board.
The Snappers answered back with a three-hit inning in the bottom of the sixth. Eddie Rosario hit a leadoff double to start, but was later caught stealing. Drew Leachman singled, followed by an RBI double by Jhon Goncalves, scoring Leachman.
A.J. Achter came in to relieve Summers, throwing a scoreless top of the eighth. LumberKings' starter, Cameron Hobson went five and a third innings, allowing eight hits and three runs, all earned. Ben Cornwell came in to relieve Hobson in the bottom of the sixth going one and two thirds innings with one hit and no runs.
Beloit's Corey Williams came in to close the game in the top of the ninth. Clinton made one last rally to win the game with Carlton Tanabe singling to lead off and then Jamal Austin and Jabari Blash were walked by Williams to load the bases. Williams ended the game by striking out Steven Baron to give the Snappers a 3-1. Williams picked up his sixth save of the season.
The Snappers and LumberKings meet again tomorrow for game two of the series with first pitch set for 2:00 PM. On the mound will be Snappers' LHP Matt Tomshaw (1-1, 3.22 ERA) vs. LumberKings' Ambioris Hidalgo (1-4, 5.24 ERA).
