Hawks Drop Rain-Shortened Game with Hot Rods

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The South Bend Silver Hawks (20-16) lost the opening game of a four-game

series Saturday as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (19-17) claimed a 4-3 rain-shortened win at Bowling

Green Ballpark. The field was tarped after the sixth inning and was delayed 50 minutes before the game

was called early. Any game that has gone five innings - or four-and-a-half with the home team leading -

is considered an official game.

Jake Floethe (5-1) earned the win for Bowling Green, allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings.

The right-hander walked two and struck out five. J.R. Bradley (2-3) was hit with the loss for South Bend,

allowing four earned runs on eight hits over five innings.

Down 4-0 entering the sixth inning, the Silver Hawks scored three runs against right-hander Stayton

Thomas. Matt Helm stroked a two-RBI double and Marc Bourgeois added an RBI ground out to cut the

margin to one.

The Hot Rods took the lead in the fourth inning on a three-run home run from Josh Sale and added

another run on an RBI double from Jeff Malm in the fifth inning.

Right-hander Tyler Green worked the last of the sixth inning for South Bend and worked his way out of

a bases-loaded jam without surrendering a run. Moments later, the field was tarped and the game never

resumed.

Fidel Pena went 2-for-2 and drew a walk for South Bend.

Jake Hager and Matt Rice each notched two hits for Bowling Green.

The Silver Hawks and Hot Rods will continue the four-game series Sunday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. EST. Right-hander Archie Bradley (4-1, 2.57) starts for South Bend and

he will be opposed by left-hander Felipe Rivero (2-2, 1.50). The Silver Hawks return home on Wednesday,

May 16 to take on the Lake County Captains at 7:05 p.m. EST. Tickets are available for purchase by calling
