DAYTON, OH - Left fielder Kevin Pillar capped off a record-tying 6-for-6 night with a grand slam, and the Lansing Lugnuts (24-11) routed the Dayton Dragons, 16-4, in the opener of a four-game series at Fifth Third Field on Saturday night.

Pillar's slam, coming with two outs in the ninth inning off reliever James Allen, tied Franklin German's mark from May 25, 1999. The 23-year-old Californian finished the game with four singles, a double and six RBIs, two shy of another franchise record, set by Ryan Gripp on April 15, 2000.

Carlos Perez's three-run homer in the first inning set the tone for the night, sending the Lugnuts on their way to battering 18 hits for the second time in three days.

Lansing knocked out Dayton starter Daniel Tuttle (Loss, 1-2) with three more runs in the second inning, added a solo tally in the third, before breaking the game wide open with a five-run fourth inning keyed by a Pillar two-run single.

Lugnuts starter Anthony DeSclafani allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits in four innings while striking out four. Noah Syndergaard (Win, 3-0) followed with four frames of his own, whiffing seven Dragons and allowing two runs on five hits. Eric Brown pitched a scoreless, hitless ninth inning in his 2012 Lugnuts debut.

In support of Pillar's remarkable night, Jon Berti and Chris Hawkins each went 3-for-6 with a triple and two runs scored, and K.C. Hobson provided a 2-for-4 night with two walks and three runs.

The Lugnuts are now 4-0 in Dayton this season, outscoring the Dragons 37-10 in those meetings.

The Nuts send left-hander David Rollins (2-0, 2.30) to the mound for a 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee in the second game of the four-game series, opposed by Dragons right-hander Dan Jensen (1-2, 1.35).

Lansing returns home on a Ladies Night, Wednesday, May 16th, to open a three-game series against Fort Wayne on Jackson Field. Tickets are available online at the team website at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
