POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost 10-2 on Tuesday in the series finale at Greensboro. The Power held a 1-0 lead after one half inning in Dan Gamache's first 2012 home run, but the Hoppers quickly answered and took a 6-2 lead after three. Nick Kingham took the loss after allowing six runs, only one of which was earned over three and a third innings of work, including two home runs. Greensboro swept the Power in the four-game set.
WEST V. SOUTH: West Virginia and Charleston will meet for a total of 14 games against each other in 2012 after having met 15 times in 2011. The RiverDogs swept a four game series in South Carolina in April and own a 20-19 edge in the all-time series dating back to 2005. West Virginia has a record of 9-6 at home in this series and has gone 10-14 since 2005 at Charleston's Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park down south.
A DIAZ CATCHES NO MATTER WHAT: The Pittsburgh Pirates have transferred Francisco Diaz to West Virginia's roster on Wednesday from Bradenton. The 22-year old catcher replaces Jonathan Schwind on the Power roster after Schwind was transferred to State College. Diaz was acquired from Philadelphia in the Triple-A phase of the Rule Five draft during 2011 and has appeared in 10 games for the Marauders this season, batting .167. Francisco Diaz joins Elias Diaz as the only catchers on the West Virginia roster.
TAKE A BREATHER: Alen Hanson had been the leadoff hitter each of the first 31 games this season prior to getting a day off on Tuesday at Greensboro. Hanson is tied for the league lead in games this season and had played shortstop in 25 of those games while serving as the designated hitter during the other six. Only first baseman Jose Osuna has appeared in as many games as Hanson, having only missed the April 9 game for rest. Osuna has now played in 27 straight.
MARVELOUS MAY SO FAR: Willy Garcia is batting .333 over eight games this month with four home runs and 10 runs batted in. During 22 games in April, the left-fielder batted .214 with two homers and 16 runs batted in. Garcia's average has climbed to .248 over the last eight games.
EXTRA EXTRA: West Virginia is now 1-1 in games that go to extra innings. The Power won 3-2 in 10 innings on April 13 on a walk-off wild pitch in their only other bonus baseball affair prior to Sunday's 10 inning loss at Greensboro.
BRING ON THE BEST: West Virginia has played nine series this season, and in each of those, the Power opponent has had no worse then a .500 record when the series began. West Virginia's previous opponents have a combined record of 114-72.
