Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Kansas City Royals, have announced that pitcher Santiago Garrido has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Wilmington, while infielder Henry Moreno has been transferred to the Royals' extended spring training complex in Arizona. Infielder Dean Espy has joined the Cougars from Arizona. This afternoon's roster move precedes a seven-game homestand that commences this evening at 6 p.m. as the Cougars oppose Clinton.
Garrido becomes the first member of the Cougars to receive a promotion this season. The right-hander was 3-0 with a Midwest League-best 0.68 ERA in 6 appearances. Espy (15th round, 2011) spent last season at Rookie Advanced Idaho Falls, batting .318 with 7 home runs and 39 RBI while ranking 10th among Pioneer League players in on-base percentage (.391). As a collegian at UCLA, Espy batted .345 with a team-high 52 RBI in 2010, helping the Bruins reach the College World Series.
