Reno Aces News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Ryan Wheeler delivered a two-out, go-ahead single in the 13th inning, lifting Reno to a 9-8 victory over the Memphis Redbirds in the longest game in Aces history Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
After the Redbirds pushed across a run in the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-8, both teams traded zeros over the game's next five innings. In the top half of the 13th, though, Cole Gillespie drew a two-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on an error, then came home with the go-ahead run on Wheeler's base hit through the left side. In the home half of the 13th, Jonathan Albaladejo retired Memphis in order to close out Reno's fifth-straight victory.
The official time of game was four hours and 59 minutes, marking the longest game in Aces franchise history. It was also the third-longest game in the Pacific Coast League this season. Both teams will resume the series at 9 a.m. PT Wednesday morning.
Albaladejo (2-1) earned the win out of the Reno bullpen, tossing two scoreless frames. He was the fifth Aces pitcher to appear after starter Charles Brewer's exit in the sixth.
The loss fell to Memphis' R.J. Swindle (1-1) -the Redbirds' seventh pitcher of the evening-who allowed the eventual game-winner in the 13th.
At the plate for Reno, Jake Elmore, Josh Bell and Taylor Harbin fueled a 16-hit Aces attack with three hits apiece. David Winfree drove in three runs, and Randy Ruiz stretched his hitting streak to 18 games.
The series continues on Wednesday morning from AutoZone Park. LHP Zach Kroenke (2-1, 5.88 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while RHP Joe Kelly (1-2, 2.65 ERA) counters for the Redbirds. First pitch is set for 9:05 a.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
Reno returns to Aces Ballpark on May 17 to kick-off an eight-game homestand. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
