Aeros Defeat Baysox, 5-1

Bowie, MD - Lefty T.J. McFarland scattered five hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings, and Jared Goedert clubbed a solo homer as the Akron Aeros defeated the Bowie Baysox, 5-1, Tuesday evening at Prince George's Stadium.

McFarland (3-1) was sharp in picking up his team-leading third win of the season. He allowed only a second-inning run on a double by Manny Machado and a single by Robbie Widlansky. McFarland walked three and fanned six on the night.

Matt Langwell came on for McFarland in the sixth, and stranded two base-runners. Preston Guilmet notched the final four outs for his third save.

The three Aeros hurlers combined for 12 strikeouts, matching a season-high from Monday night. In the first two games of the series, 24 Bowie hitters have gone down on strikes.

The Aeros took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning against Bowie lefty Cole McCurry (0-3). With two outs, Jared Goedert slugged an opposite field, solo homer, his second of the season, for a 1-0 lead. Chun Chen followed with a double and scored on a fielding error.

In the third, Akron DH Adam Abraham laced a two-run double off the wall in center to give the Aeros a 4-1 lead. Tim Fedroff capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth, one of his two hits on the night.

Thomas Neal went 3-4 for Akron.

The Aeros and Baysox will play the rubber game of the series Wednesday morning at 11:05. RHP Steven Wright (2-1, 1.56) will start for the Aeros against RHP Zach Clark (1-1, 6.48) of Bowie.
