Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Devils surges in the offensive end came up short as the defending Calder Cup Champions, the Binghamton Senators, skated away Sunday with a 4-2 win at the Times Union Center.

The Devils held two leads in the game and at one point were outshooting the Senators, 22-11.

Trailing, 2-1, at the start of the third, the Senators used goals by Derek Grant (0:31) and Pat Cannone (11:30) for their second-straight victory. Cannone's game-winner came off a rebound try on a shot by David Dziurzynski.

"They upped their level; they got the momentum and that was the difference," Kowalsky said.

Albany received goals from Steve Zalewski and Matt Taormina. Zalewski's was a result of resiliency as he followed his own rebound at 9:48 of the first period. The assists went to Stephen Gionta and Vladimir Zharkov.

Taormina's tally was crowd-raising as he played the puck around a Binghamton player, allowing him to walk into the high slot and fire a puck low past Robin Lehner at 12:34 of the second. Adam Henrique and Matt Anderson had the helpers.

"I was trying to change the angle, fake a shot and I thought he was going to go down," Taormina said. "I was going to try and go back on my forehand; he read me. It's one of those things where the coaches [say], 'it worked out, but don't make us look bad.'"

Binghamton's Nikita Filatov scored his team's first goal of the game at 11:21 of the first and Kaspars Daugavins scored the Senators last goal, an empty netter, at 19:16 of the third.

The Devils remain at home when the Hershey Bears come to the Times Union Center on Friday, Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. outing. It's SEFCU College Night, allowing students to purchase a $10 ticket with a $1 soda and $1 hot dog. Additionally, fans can take advantage of Happy Hour between 6-7 p.m. All draft beers are just $2.
