Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine-The 2011 Portland Sea Dogs' season will come to a close this weekend with a four game homestand stretching from Friday, September 2nd through Monday, September 5th against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays). The homestand will offer plenty of entertainment for fans including "Flannel Friday", "One Hit Wonders' and the fan favorite "Field of Dreams". Additionally the Sea Dogs will announce the newest member of the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame and present the annual team awards. The Sea Dogs who have won five of their last six games look to finish the season on a high note.
"Flannel Friday"
The fun kicks-off on Friday night, September 2nd at 7:00 PM with "Flannel Friday". All fans are encouraged to wear flannel to the game. As an added bonus to our flannel wearing fans, they will be able to pose for photos in the Sea Dogs dugout from 5:30 to 5:50 PM and have the opportunity to throw-out a ceremonial first-pitch at 6:20. Our friends at L.L. Bean will be giving away flannel shirts throughout the game. For those fans that are looking to rid their closet of flannel, bring your flannel to the ballpark and the Sea Dogs will donate it to Goodwill.
Sea Dogs Hall of Fame
The Sea Dogs will also host a pre-game ceremony on Friday to announce the newest member of the Unum Portland Sea Dogs Hall of Fame.
One Hit Wonders
One-Hit Wonders Night, presented by Y100.9 FM, will take over Hadlock Field on Saturday, September 3rd. All fans who present a CD, Cassette, Record or 8-track of a "One Hit Wonder" at the ticket office windows will receive a complimentary general admission ticket to the game. A One Hit Wonder is described as "a person or act known mainly for only a single success. The term is most often used to describe music performers with only one hit single". The Portland Sea Dogs reserve the right to approve all One Hit Wonders. Be sure to bring your one hit wonder to the game that night, as you will be invited to parade around the warning track to start the game. During the game, the Sea Dogs will raffle off a Team Autographed electric guitar courtesy of the Guitar Grave on Congress Street in Portland.
Additionally, the Sea Dogs will allow all fans interested the opportunity for one hit on the field. From 4:30pm to 5:15pm fans attending the game that evening will be allowed on the field to take one swing from our pitching machine. If that one swing results in a home run, the lucky fan will win a 2012 Sea Dogs Season Ticket.
If the Portland Sea Dogs pitching staff holds the visiting team to just one hit that evening, everyone in attendance will win a Sea Dogs $1.00 gift card.
Field of Dreams/ Fan Appreciation Day
Sunday, September 4th at 1:00 PM will be the fan favorite Field of Dreams/ Fan Appreciation Day. In 2010, ESPN.com named it one of the top ten promotions in Minor League Baseball. The day features the Sea Dogs sporting 1926 Portland Eskimo uniforms. The players will emerge from a cornfield in centerfield and head into the stands to personally thank fans for their support this season.
Peanut Free Section
The Sea Dogs will offer the first ever Peanut Free Section at Hadlock Field on Monday, September 5th when the Sea Dogs take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 1:00 PM. The Peanut Free Section will allow fans who suffer from peanut allergies to enjoy a Portland Sea Dogs Baseball game. For more information contact the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or visit www.seadogs.com.
Team Awards
Prior to Monday's season finale, the Sea Dogs will present the annual team awards in a pre-game ceremony. Fan voting selects the team MVP, Pitcher of the Year, 10th Player Award, and Citizen of the Year.
