Chiang, Tejeda Power Sea Dogs to 8-4 Win

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs got home runs from Chih-Hsien Chiang and Oscar Tejeda as the Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-4 Saturday night at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 6,266 fans. It was the Sea Dogs fourth win in the last five games improving their record to 29-50.

The Sea Dogs received a mix of solid pitching and a powerful offensive attack Saturday night. Stolmy Pimentel, Junichi Tazawa, Miguel Gonzalez, and Blake Maxwell combined to hold the first place Fisher Cats to four runs on nine hits.

Pimentel had one of his better outings of the season holding the Fisher Cats scoreless for two innings before allowing two runs in the third. The Fisher Cats picked-up RBI doubles from Mike McDade and Travis d'Arnaud to take a 2-0 lead.

Portland tied the game at two when Oscar Tejeda launched a two run homer, his third of the year. Tejeda went 2-for-3 with three RBI, he has now hit safely in 19 of his last 22 games.

Reynaldo Rodriguez snapped the 2-2 tie with a RBI double scoring Chiang in the fourth.

Tazawa continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery, piggy-backing, Pimentel, for his second appearance of the season with the Sea Dogs. Tazawa (1-1) would earn the win allowing one run on four hits in two innings of work. He recorded three strikeouts and walked one. His lone blemish was a home run to Anthony Gose in the fifth tying the game at three.

After a Jon Hee single and a Ryan Khoury walk, Chiang smacked his 14th home run of the season giving the Sea Dogs a 6-3 lead in the fifth. The Eastern League All-Star was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBI, and two runs scored.

Gonzalez pitched three outstanding innings of relief including two perfect innings before d'Arnaud tagged him for a solo home run in the eighth. Gonzalez struck out a season high four batters.

Henderson Alvarez (4-4) suffered the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out a season high eight batters. His ERA rose from 2.61 to 3.38

Portland tagged on two more runs in the sixth including a bases loaded single off the bat off Hee and a Rodriguez scored on a double play ball off the bat of Hazelbaker.

Maxwell pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the win for the home team.

The Sea Dogs will look to take three of four from the first place Fisher Cats as the homestand concludes Sunday night at 6:00 PM with a post-game Fireworks show. Sunday's game is Sold Out. Eastern League All-Star Alex Wilson (6-4, 2.82) will be on the mound for Portland. New Hampshire has not yet announced a starter.
