Birmingham Barons News Release
Hoover, AL - Seth Loman's pinch-hit, walk off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Birmingham Barons (38-26) to a 2-1 victory over the Mobile BayBears (36-29) in front of ------2,497 fans Monday night at Regions Park. With tonight's victory own a 2.5 game lead in the Southern League's Southern Division.
Birmingham grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Kenny Williams, Jr. slapped a leadoff single to left field. On Justin Greene's swinging bunt single, Mobile starter Wade Miley's throwing error allowed Williams, Jr. to reach third base. Williams, Jr. dashed home on a ball four, wild pitch to Tyler Kuhn.
Marc Krauss cracked a solo home run over the right field wall for the BayBears in the top of the ninth inning that tied the game, 1-1.
Tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, Brandon Short laced a single up the middle and advanced to second base on Christian Marrero's sacrifice bunt. After he dashed to third base on a wild pitch, Loman's pinch-hit walk off single to left field drove in Short for the game-winning run, 2-1.
Barons' reliever Dan Remenowski (4-1) was credited with the victory after he allowed one earned run on four hits and three strikeouts in 2.0 IP. Starter Charlie Leesman received a no-decision after he tossed 6.0 shutout IP with 1 hit, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Mike Demark (0-1) was handed the loss for the BayBears after he yielded one earned run on two hits and one walk in 0.2 IP. Miley was issued a no-decision for Mobile after he permitted one run on 3 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in 8.0 IP.
The Barons travel to northern Alabama for a six-game series with the Huntsville Stars, Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Beginning with a double-header on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch set for 4:43 p.m. at Joe Davis Stadium, left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago (3-1, 3.86) will take the mound in game one for the Barons while the starter for the second game has yet to be determined. Huntsville will counter with Willy Peralta (4-6, 4.81) in game one and Michael Fiers (2-2, 3.79) in game two.
