Beckham Double Snaps Shutout, Wins It Late

MONTGOMERY, AL - Shane Dyer became the first Biscuit to pitch seven full innings, and Tim Beckham (above) ripped a two-run double to left field in the eighth inning to give the Biscuits (31-34) a 2-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns (33-32) Monday at Riverwalk.

Joey O'Gara (4-4) had held the Biscuits scoreless through seven innings before Beckham's game-winner in the eighth. Reid Fronk doubled to left to start the frame. Shawn O'Malley then reached on a Luke Montz error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Beckham'sdouble was just out of the reach of a leaping Jake Smolinski in left with one out in the inning.

Marquis Fleming (3) came on to strike out the side and get the save.

Dyer allowed only a second inning run over seven full innings, striking out one and scattering eight hits and a walk in a no-decision. Frank De Los Santos (1-5) worked a scoreless eighth for the win.

Fronk and Kyeong Kang led the Biscuits offensive attack, both going 2-3.

The win gave the Biscuits four out of five in the series, six of seven total, and a 7-3 homestand.

After an off-day Tuesday, RHP Nick Barnese will throw for the Biscuits in the series opener at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. LHP Patrick Corbin will counter for the BayBears.
